The Technology

Scientists from Cal Poly and Dickinson College are using cameras capable of taking high-quality images and video and ground-penetrating radar, or GPR learn more about the lives of these snakes.

Past Project: Zooniverse

Check out our Zooniverse project to learn about past research at the Colorado den. The cameras took photos every 5 minutes and community scientists helped classify these images on whether snakes were present, if so how many adult and/or baby snakes are present, and what they are doing. We learned a lot about their social behavior, how they obtain water, identify their predators, and more. This project was a monumental step forward and led to the livestreaming we have today.
